The food was absolutely amazing. We were in the area for a concert. Wish I lived closer!
Really tasty Ethiopian food in a casual setting. Enjoyed my vegetarian meal...got the Ingudai Tibs (mushroom) entree with sides of Gomen (greens) and Misr Alicha Watt (lentils). Very flavorful with a nice, mild kick of spice. Enjoyed my meal here. Very friendly server.
Food was amazing, waiter was sweet, overall great experience.. only feedback was the speed could be improved
Love the Ethiopian food and vegetarian selections! Great place great food! We have known the owners family for a long time, and they never disappoint. Go there!
It was a nice dinner. The service was terrific because the one person there, presumably the owner, enlisted several patrons to help out with food service. It was very funny. The food was good, Ethiopian, the place was charming.
A birthday dinner was in order and Walia was up to the task! Love, love, love Walia We had a meat plate for two and an appetizer. You must visit this place. It's a gem and the staff are stars.
Decided to come here for dinner on a weekday while visiting the downtown area. Restaurant is located very close to Starbucks, parking lots and train station. There was a good number of people there even on a weekday. We ordered raw Kitfo with gomen and misr. Everything was prepared perfectly from the food to the customer service. Keep in mind that since you traditionally eat with Injera as your utensil, they typically don't provide unless you specifically ask. Will be back to try their other dishes.
For years, Lalibela was my go to for Ethiopian cuisine in North Jersey. With that charming spot in South Orange departed, Walia more than makes up for the loss. We wandered into Walia around 6:00 on a Saturday night. While busy, we were table to get a table without a reservation. The menu spans a familiar mix of meats and veggies. Wanting to get a good variety of eats, we split a meat combo: kay watt (beef cubes in berbere and clarified butter), minchet abish kay watt (minced beef in berbere and clarified butter), yebeg kay watt (lamb cubes in berbere and clarified butter), and doro tibs (chicken in berbere and tomato), with gomen (collard greens) and misr watt (lentils). The injera was a bit heavier than expected but every part of the dish was tasty
My girlfriend and I were in Montclair and were hoping to visit Mesob, which we had not been to since before the Covid pandemic. However, we happened to go on a day they were closed so we quickly used the ol' Yelp app to find the next closest Ethopian restaurant and Walia came up. Less than a half hour later we were parked and seated in Walia and boy am I glad we made this choice! Walia is located in an older store front that features a beautiful ceiling and windows in the front that extend out a bit. The place definitely has character and I love restaurants in settings like this. It looked like this place could accommodate up to maybe 20-30 people (I'm guesstimating). We were only one of two tables on this particular evening (it was Tuesday so not exactly the biggest party night) and that worked out great because our waiter came up to us quickly and was very attentive throughout the meal. We tried a variety of dishes (as one does at such a restaurant). We had Yebeg Kay Watt (lamb) and Yesiga Tibs (beef). Both were absolutely delicious and tender. The Injira bread tasted wonderfully fresh and it was nice and spongy (as it should be). Our vegetables included the Tkile Gomen (cabbage, carrot & potatoes) and the Duba Alicha Watt (pumpkin). Both were Much more tasty than I had expected. In most of my experiences with Ethiopian food the vegetable dishes are often nice but not particularly memorable on their own. Not so here! Both these vegetable dishes were absolutely wonderful. We also had the Gomen (mixed greens) which was tremendously flavorful. Service was fantastic and I enjoyed every last thing I ate and I am really looking forward to my next visit!
